Buying a car in the USA: why and how?
Why do so many Europeans buy cars in the United States? Discover the larger selection, exclusive models unavailable in Europe, and how the vehicle import process works from start to finish
Exporting a boat calls for specific expertise that goes beyond a car or a motorcycle. The dimensions of the vessel decide which transport method is possible, and ship's documents differ from vehicle registration papers.

A boat needs different paperwork than a car: a proof of ownership, ship’s certificate or registration document, and an export declaration. We advise you which documents each destination requires.

Removing masts, draining fuel and fluids, securing loose parts: larger boats and yachts call for thorough preparation before transport.

Smaller boats go in a container or on a flat rack. Larger yachts require crane loading. We have the contacts and the know-how for every type of vessel.

Every destination country applies its own import rules for boats and yachts. We brief you in advance on duties, certificates and any local inspection requirements.

Whether you’re exporting a speedboat, a sailing yacht or a motor yacht: Marlog takes care of the entire process. You decide how much you outsource. This is what we handle as standard:
For boats and yachts, there’s no BPM and no RDW registration in the Netherlands as there is for road vehicles. The fiscal and administrative side of boat export is all about the export declaration and the customs handling.
For any export outside the EU, a customs export declaration is mandatory. This declaration confirms the official export of your vessel, is the basis for the 0% VAT rate on the export transaction, and is needed for clearance in the destination country.
Depending on the destination country, import duties, local taxes or specific certificates may apply. Customs clearance in the destination country is handled by our local agent, who knows the procedures and rates on the ground.
We take care of the export declaration and advise you on the costs and formalities to expect on the receiving end. That way you know where you stand before you start.

Every boat export at Marlog runs step by step. That way you know exactly what gets arranged when, and what to expect.
We gather the proof of ownership and ship's documents and prepare the customs export declaration.
Masts are removed, fluids drained and loose parts secured. We guide this process.

ContactTo export a boat outside the EU you’ll need, at the very least, proof of ownership: that can be a ship’s certificate, a registration document or an invoice, depending on how the vessel is registered in the Netherlands. Marlog prepares the customs export declaration, which is mandatory for export outside the EU and is needed for the 0% VAT rate. Depending on the destination country, additional documents may be required, such as an import permit or a certificate of conformity. We tell you which documents apply in your situation.
The protection method depends on the dimensions of your vessel. Smaller boats and RIBs are shipped in a closed container, secured on a special frame or cradle. Mid-sized vessels that don’t fit in a standard container go on a flat rack. Larger yachts are placed into the ship’s hold by crane. Before transport, masts are removed, fluids drained and vulnerable parts protected. Every vessel is insured based on its appraised value.
Preparation, including documents and getting the boat ready, usually takes one to a few weeks, depending on the size of the vessel. The shipping time depends on the destination. For destinations in the Middle East, allow a sea voyage of a few weeks; for the US or the Caribbean, a little longer. Clearance and delivery on the receiving end come on top of that. We give you a realistic time estimate with your quote.
